OnStepX SWS Control
OnStepX SWS Control is a client for telescope mounts running OnStepX firmware, published by an individual developer. It has no account, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry.
Data the app collects
None. Nothing is sent to the developer or to any third party.
Data the app processes on the device
- Connection profiles (host name or IP address, port, Bluetooth address) and settings are stored only on the device.
- Location: when you choose “use device location” in the Site and Time page, the app reads the device position once and sends latitude, longitude and elevation to your mount over the local network or Bluetooth. The position is not stored by the app and never leaves the device except towards your mount. Location is never read in the background.
- Environmental readings (temperature, humidity, pressure) reported by your mount are kept in a local file for 72 hours per profile, for the charts.
- App PIN: if you set a PIN to protect configuration changes, only a salted hash is stored, in the device’s encrypted storage.
All of this stays on the device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Network access
The app talks only to the mount you configure, on your local network or over Bluetooth. It does not connect to the Internet. It works on a device with no SIM and no Internet connection.
Permissions
- Local network and WiFi state: to connect to the mount and keep the link alive when the screen is off (optional foreground service).
- Bluetooth connect: to talk to a mount already paired in Android settings.
- Location: only to fill the observing site from the device position, on your request.
- Notifications: for the foreground service notification, so that the connection can be kept while the screen is off.
- Biometrics: to unlock configuration changes with the device credential.
Children
The app is not directed to children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
